This the middle section of a traditional Black Hmong (Hmoob Dlub) skirt, called a Tab. The print is hand-drawn using the batik technique using wax. The color is a deep indigo, a traditional Hmong skirt color. This Tab is made of hemp and measures 10 ½ inches wide and 7 yards long. The Tab is so long because it will be pleated in order to create fullness and movement. Once pleated, it will shrink down to less than half its size.
